The Weeknd’s fifth studio album is narrated by Jim Carrey, and features guest appearances by Tyler, The Creator and Lil Wayne, as well as Quincy Jones and Josh Safdie. The album serves as a follow-up to The Weeknd's fourth studio album, After Hours (2020). The Weeknd described the concept as a state of purgatory — a journey toward “the light at the end of a tunnel.” Musically, Dawn FM is an upbeat record containing dance-pop and synth-pop songs that are heavily inspired by ’80s new wave, funk and electronic dance music styles.
