On albums like \u003cem\u003eFamily Man\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003cem\u003eSlip It In\u003c\/em\u003e, the band experimented with everything from Sabbath-like metal to spoken-word to lengthy jazz-tinged instrumental explorations, all of them pretty much ignoring the hardcore velocity of earlier records like \u003cem\u003eDamaged\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003cem\u003eJealous Again\u003c\/em\u003e. But \u003cem\u003eLoose Nut\u003c\/em\u003e returned that early aggression and speed to the band’s more experimental sound, with devastating results. “This Is Good,” one of Henry Rollins’ most anguished songs, is the clear highlight, but the sardonic “Bastard In Love” and the brutal “Annihilate This Week” are nearly as powerful.
